Commemorating 250 Years of American Freedom with Historic Tonewoods
The Martin HD-28 Semiquincentennial Limited Edition is a landmark instrument celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence. Handcrafted by C.F. Martin & Co.—a legendary maker woven into the fabric of American music for nearly two centuries—this release is strictly limited to just 250 guitars worldwide. Built on the iconic HD-28 dreadnought platform during its own 50th anniversary, this instrument stands as an enduring artifact of American history and acoustic tone.
Every piece of this guitar tells a story. The headplate inlay, heelcap, and endpiece are crafted using reclaimed wood from the historic Basking Ridge white oak—a 600-year-old tree that stood during the Revolutionary War. General George Washington drilled troops within sight of its branches and is said to have dined beneath its canopy alongside the Marquis de Lafayette. Paired with a reclaimed Sitka spruce top adorned with custom artwork by Martin artist Robert Goetzl, this collector's masterpiece integrates actual Revolutionary-era history directly into your hands.
Sanctuary Expert Note
"This isn't just a museum piece—it's a high-performance HD-28 at heart. The combination of GE scalloped forward-shifted bracing and East Indian rosewood delivers that signature Martin low-end thunder, while the historical Basking Ridge oak accents make it one of the most uniquely collectible dreadnoughts Martin has ever produced."
