This stunning PRS Wood Library McCarty is in Natural, with Smoked Black Hardware.
The Legend of the McCarty
The PRS McCarty is named after Ted McCarty, a pioneer of the electric guitar and a mentor to Paul Reed Smith. Introduced in 1994, the McCarty model was designed to capture the "vintage heart" of the golden era of guitar building. With a slightly thicker back for enhanced resonance and a focus on organic tone, the McCarty remains the quintessential choice for players who demand vintage-inspired soul with modern PRS precision.
The Wood Library Edge
The Wood Library program allows Signature Dealers, like The Guitar Sanctuary, to work together with PRS to create special runs of guitars using woods hand selected by us at the factory. They offer upgraded features and woods that are not normally available through normal production without having to step up into the price level of a Private Stock build.
The Woods
This McCarty features high-definition Select Flame Maple Top with very unique figuring, and a pure Natural finish—a rarity that showcases the 3D depth of the grain without the mask of a stain. The back and neck are Mahogany, paired with an Indian Rosewood fretboard.
The Hardware
To modernize this organic look, it features PRS's Smoked Black hardware, a premium appointment that creates a sleek, high-contrast aesthetic you don't generally find on a standard production model outside of limited edition special runs. The PRS McCarty model is anchored by a traditional wraparound stoptail bridge with brass inserts and non-locking PRS Phase III tuners with brass shafts for added resonance and sustain.
The Electronics
PRS's McCarty III pickups were spec’d by Paul Reed Smith and the PRS New Products Engineering team. From their own hands-on research into coveted vintage pickup models to advancements in signal analyzation and “tuning” technology, these pickups incorporate every detail of pickup knowledge PRS has gained. McCarty III pickups are vintage-inspired humbuckers that bring a vocal clarity to their full, warm tone. Paired with a push/pull tone control and a 3-way toggle pickup switch, these pickups provide a complete palette of tones.
