This Stunning Paul Reed Smith Private Stock McCarty 594 is in their "Frostbite Glow" finish, and is one that we dreamed up with the PRS team during a factory visit, and hand-selected all of the woods for.
The PRS Private Stock program is the pinnacle of PRS design, materials, and execution. Each instrument is treated as a unique "one-off," built by a small team of master luthiers using the most prized components in the company’s possession.
The McCarty 594 has long been the gold standard for vintage-inspired tone and modern playability, but it has almost exclusively been defined by its two-piece stoptail bridge. This Private Stock instrument represents a rare and prestigious departure: a McCarty 594 equipped with a PRS Gen III Tremolo. While traditional 594 models focus on "Golden Era" fixed-bridge characteristics, this limited execution—previously seen only in extremely small anniversary runs—offers the expressive versatility of a tremolo without sacrificing the model's signature 24.594” scale length and vintage heart.
This specific guitar is part of an elite batch of Private Stock builds personally curated by our own Brian Meader in September 2024, when Brian traveled to the PRS Factory in Stevensville, Maryland, to spend time in "The Vault"—the legendary wood library where the finest 1% of PRS tonewoods are stored. Brian hand-selected every element of this build, from the depth of the curly maple flame to the resonance of the mahogany back, ensuring an instrument that is as much a masterpiece of visual art as it is a professional-grade musical tool.
It features the highly intricate Reverse Birds of a Feather Fretboard and Headstock Wood & Inlay package. By combining dark Ebony with figured maple that has been hand-stained to specifically match the Frost Bite Glow of the top, the fingerboard becomes a direct extension of the body's visual theme. This creates a cohesive, "total instrument" aesthetic rarely seen outside of the most elite Private Stock builds.
Departing from the standard 58/15 LT pickups found on most 594s, this build utilizes uncovered 59/09s. These pickups provide a slightly higher output and a clearer, more aggressive harmonic response, making it a "hot-rodded" vintage machine that thrives with the added versatility of the Gen III Tremolo.
Signed by both Paul Reed Smith and Paul Miles, a Private Stock guitar represents the highest level of customization and craftsmanship available in the industry today.
