Having worked with master luthier Dana Bourgeois for several years and then with violin maker Jon Cooper where for four years he learned the art of violin design and construction. His apprenticeship with Jon would take Chuck’s luthier skills to the next level, which was building guitars.
Chuck has personally and passionately crafted more than 800 guitars since 2004. From 1985 until 1992 he built 55 Bass guitars and from 1993 to 1996 he built 33 of his own solid body electric guitars while working for Bourgeois Acoustic guitars. From 1996 to 2000 while working for Jon Cooper he learned the skills and realised his desire to build semi hollowbody guitars.
In 2000 he went to work for Pantheon Guitars and on weekends and after hours he designed and developed his first four prototype semi hollowbodies and thanks to the help of John Hayden and Richard Shapiro he opened the doors to CP Thornton Guitars in 2004.
He is fulfilling his dream of creating custom made heirloom quality instruments for buyers who seek that rare balance between exquisite beauty, engineering excellence and incredible tone.
